Staying in a yurt

Staying in one of our yurts for your holiday isn’t just about camping in style (or glamping!), it’s about being able to relax in a simple, uncomplicated environment away from all the hubbub. A yurt offers a really fun, exciting way to enjoy the great Cornish outdoors without having to sacrifice on the comforts we all like to enjoy when we go on holiday. Our contemporary yurts are light, spacious and lofty, with handmade beams that bring warmth and a sense of tradition. Furnished with cosy rugs, sofas and proper wooden framed beds you feel more like you’re in a boutique hotel than a tent. It’s definitely a very comfortable adventure.

In the morning, you’ll wake up after a good nights sleep and step onto a wooden floor. On a flagstone hearth in the corner roars a log burner, and the kettle gently warms and whistles away, calling you for your cup of tea. This really doesn’t sound like a typical camping holiday does it?

Sleeping in our yurts

Sleeping in a yurt is a magical experience. Each yurt is topped with a 5ft wide skylight that floods the yurt with natural light and allows guests to lie in bed at night looking up at the stars. Lanterns gently light the evening, dancing across your lofty canvas roof and if the sea brings a chill to the air you can light your log burner and bring instant warmth and romance to your yurt. Even the sound of rain drumming on the roof will feel relaxing as you lie in bed knowing you are warm, dry and cosy.

At 314 sqft our 6-person yurts are suitable for 4 adults, or for 2 adults and up to 4 children. Each yurt is furnished with a 6ft wooden framed bed, 2 twin pull out trundle beds and a double sofa bed - no one is left sleeping on the floor or in a sleeping bag! During the day you can simply roll the twin beds away and fold up the sofa bed maximising your living space. When you place your booking we will confirm the sleeping configuration you require and on arrival your yurt will be set with duvets, pillows and crisp cotton linens, all included in the price of your stay.

You can see how the bed configuration works in our ‘yurt layout’.

Cooking in our yurts

For us, an important part of our holidays is enjoying good food, so we’ve made many provisions for simple and easy cooking, or the more adventurous chef! But never fear – if the idea of cooking on holiday sounds appalling, you will find a whole spectrum of restaurants and eating places in Cornwall to suit all purses. Whether you are looking for a contemporary waterside bistro, a relaxed family pub, or a Michelin star restaurant, you will be spoilt for choice in Cornwall.

Your options for cooking in the yurts are just as luxurious as the yurts themselves. Inside you have a wood burning stove, that when alight will happily keep a kettle on the boil or allow you to slow cook a casserole or chilli. Each yurt is equipped with a butchers block, laden with a full set of pans and cooking utensils and a dual burner gas stove.

For al-fresco cooking you have more options. Each yurt has its own gas BBQ and we also have a charcoal Webber that can be used for those BBQ’ing purists amongst you. For the adventurous we have our fire pits, built from Cornish stone found around the farm. Cooking over a campfire is an experience in itself whether you’re just toasting marshmallows or using one of our cast-iron Dutch ovens.

Dutch ovens over a campfire offer a wonderful outdoor cooking experience. With a Dutch oven you can roast, bake, stew, fry and steam on the campfire. Imagine the mouth watering dinners you could create - delicious fresh baked bread, crumbles made from blackberries picked fresh at the campsite, incredible deep-dish pizzas, stews, Cornish game hens roasted to perfection and a chocolate cake a foot in diameter.

Each yurt has a copy of Annie Bell’s ‘The Camping Cookbook’ for guests to peruse. The book serves up over 60 delicious camping recipes for all sorts of locations, ingredients and equipment levels. Remarkably, most of the recipes don't call for anything other than a barbeque or stove, and saucepan and a sharp knife … and of course the ingredients!
