Pencuke Farm is idyllically located, enjoying fantastic panoramic scenery of the countryside and out to the Atlantic Ocean. The farm offers guests the opportunity to explore more than 18 acres of farmland and relax against a stunning backdrop, whilst being located close to beaches and all the outdoor activities you would expect to enjoy from a holiday in Devon and Cornwall.
We bought the farm in 2010 and are investing in the holiday cottages and developing the yurt camping to offer guests the opportunity to enjoy a luxurious yet eco minded holiday. Green initiatives are at the heart of the farms continuing growth and we having a real vision for how we can harness the opportunities this lovely spot on the coast offers us. The farm and local area has a very colourful history.
We are in the process of converting the farm to organic with the guidance of the Soil Association. It takes two years to convert the farm and during this time the land must be managed to organic standards. This includes managing the land without the use of pesticides and herbicides, rearing livestock to the highest welfare standards using organic feed and without reliance on routine treatments, and protecting and enhancing the farm environment with particular regard to conservation and wildlife so we effectively coexist with, rather than dominate natural systems. This requires attentive livestock husbandry and careful land management with particular regard to soil fertility. We use green manures, composted manure from our horses and poultry, and have plans in place for effective crop rotation and livestock grazing. Read more about why we are converting to organic. There is a growing market for organic produce and quite deservedly so, as organic farming not only ensures the well-being of our land and livestock, but also protects the environment.
We are developing routes around the farm that will allow guests to explore our beautiful holding, and as part of this process we are currently working on a woodland walk that meanders alongside a babbling stream forming our West boundary.
